What is
Nepali Chulo?
"CHULO" translates to a traditional stove or cooking device in English — the very heart of every Nepali kitchen. It symbolises warmth, tradition, and the art of preparing meals with love and generational heritage.
Nepali Chulo was established on June 14, 2004 (2061 Jesth 32, Monday) with a singular vision: to serve authentic Nepali and Newari cuisine while preserving and showcasing Nepal's rich cultural heritage through traditional dance and folk music performances.
Our journey began at Durbarmarg, within a historic palace built by the Rana dynasty. The grandeur of that original setting established the tone for what Nepali Chulo would become — a royal dining experience unlike any other in Kathmandu.
A few years after our founding, we found our permanent home at Lazimpat — a magnificent 200-year-old palace, also born of the Rana era. This architectural marvel serves as both restaurant and living museum, where every carved arch and gilded wall tells a story of Nepal's regal past.
Today, Nepali Chulo represents over 100 distinct ethnic groups of Nepal through its cuisine and cultural presentations — a gateway for both locals and international visitors to experience the full breadth of Nepali culture in a single, extraordinary evening.
